ALL ABOUT LAYERS AND THE STAMPIN’ UP TRIMMER
Layers, layers, layers… such a fun thing to play around with when you’re stamping! In this blog post, I’m going to talk all about layers: what measurements you could use (the possibilities are endless!) including card base measurements. I’ll also talk a lot (A LOT) about the Stampin’ Up! Trimmer, because, well, it is going to be your new best friend!
I’ve linked a YouTube video a little further down on this post. Make sure to check it out!
In the video, I share a lot about card base measurements and all about the Stampin’ Up! Trimmer. You don’t want to miss it!
ALL ABOUT LAYERS:
CARD BASES: The first part about card making is learning how to cut a card base! A standard card front is 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″, which means your whole card needs to double just one of those measurements. For example:
- Cut your card base at 4-1/4″ x 11″ and score at 5-1/2″ to have a top folding card
- Cut your card base at 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ and score at 4-1/4″ to have a side folding card
Either way, you’ll cut your standard piece of cardstock (which measures 8-1/2″ x 11″) in half on either of the sides. That way you’ll have the correct size card base!
SO WHAT MEASUREMENTS DO I USE FOR LAYERS? Honestly, the possibilities are endless and it all comes down to your preferences. For example, I am an 1/8″ layer girl, but others prefer 1/4″ layers. Here are some common measurements for both styles (but remember, you can cut your paper to whatever size you want!):
COMMON MEASUREMENTS:
LARGER SIZE LAYERING ON:
- 4″ x 5-1/4″
- 3-3/4″ x 5″
- 3-1/2″ x 4-3/4″
- 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″
- 4″ x 4-1/4″
1/8″ MEASUREMENTS:
- 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″
- 3-5/8″ x 4-7/8″
- 3-3/8″ x 4-5/8″
- 3-1/8″ x 4-3/8″
- 2-7/8″ x 4-1/8″
1/4″ MEASUREMENTS:
- 3-3/4″ x 5″
- 3-1/2″ x 4-3/4″
- 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″
- 3″ x 4-1/4″
- 2-3/4″ x 4″
