Freebie Friday: Painted Pumpkins Spooky Halloween Card

Who says pumpkins have to be sweet and cozy? 🎃 I took the Painted Pumpkins Bundle in a completely different direction for this card and gave it a spooky Halloween makeover! Between the black fence, twisting vines and Frightfully Fun Designer Series Paper in the background, this one definitely feels like a pumpkin patch you might not want to wander through after dark!

Halloween card with a black die cut fence surrounded by orange pumpkins, green vines and leaves against spooky tree-patterned paper.

I started with a Basic Black card base and added a layer of Frightfully Fun DSP. I love the bare trees in this pattern because they set the scene without needing to add anything else to the background.

The fence and gate are all die cut from Basic Black cardstock, with the fence brackets and handle cut from two tone Basic Black cardstock for a subtle variation. Then came the pumpkins—and there are eight of them! I cut four from the light side and four from the dark side of two tone Timid Tiger cardstock. Mixing the two shades adds just enough variation to keep all those pumpkins from blending together.

I added lots of Mossy Meadow leaves and vines around the pumpkins, along with Basic Black stems. I really like how the greenery winds its way across the fence and around the pumpkins—it makes the whole scene feel a little overgrown and perfect for Halloween.

The “Happy Halloween” sentiment is from the Soiree Salutations Stamp Set. I heat embossed it with white embossing powder on Basic Black cardstock, trimmed it down and popped it up with Dimensionals. A few Old Olive Moody Palette Glossy Dots finish everything off.

When you’re creating a scene with lots of die cut pieces, try using different shades of the same color instead of introducing more colors. The light and dark sides of the Timid Tiger two tone cardstock give the pumpkins some variety while keeping the whole card coordinated.
