Freebie Friday: Double Gatefold Christmas Card

Today I’m sharing a fun fold Christmas card that I originally created for my Inkredible Crafters team’s October Creative Challenge! Our theme this month was fun folds, and I decided to make a Double Gatefold Card. I love how this card looks when it’s all folded up, but the real fun comes when you open it!

And here’s something else I love about this card — there’s absolutely no stamping involved! Just some pretty paper, embossing, die cuts, and a few finishing touches.

I started with a 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ piece of Thick Basic White cardstock for my card base and added a layer of Creative Celebrations Designer Series Paper. The pretty plaid pattern gives this Christmas card such a festive look! I then used another piece of Thick Basic White cardstock, scored and folded to create the Double Gatefold mechanism, and adhered it to the center of the card front.

For the outer flaps, I added two strips of the Hydrangea Hue patterned paper from the Creative Celebrations DSP. I love how the soft blue works with the traditional Christmas colors in the plaid! To add some texture, I embossed a piece of Basic White cardstock with the Dreamy Snowflakes Hybrid Embossing Folder, layered it onto another piece of Basic White, and adhered it to the left-hand outer flap.

For the focal point, I die cut a circle from Secret Sea cardstock using the Stylish Shapes Dies. The dark circle really helps the pretty poinsettia sticker from the Season of Celebration Ephemera Pack stand out! I popped up the sticker for some dimension, then added a bow tied with Real Red + White Baker’s Twine and a couple of Secret Sea Snowflakes embellishments.

I think my favorite part of this handmade Christmas card is how all the layers come together when it’s closed. Then, when you open it, you get that fun Double Gatefold surprise!

Fun fold cards don’t have to be complicated! Using coordinating Designer Series Paper and premade embellishments, like the Season of Celebration Ephemera Pack, makes it easy to create something special without a lot of stamping or extra work. And if you don’t have these exact supplies, try the same layout with your favorite patterned paper and a coordinating focal point!
