Holly Jolly Branches Christmas Card with Colorful Patterned Trees

Who says Christmas trees all have to match?! Not me! 🎄 Today’s Christmas card features the Holly Jolly Branches Bundle from Stampin’ Up!, and I had so much fun mixing and matching different patterns of Designer Series Paper to create this colorful little forest!

I love finding ways to use up those smaller pieces of Designer Series Paper, and this card is a perfect example. With nine adorable trees, a little texture, and some fun patterns, there’s plenty to look at without making the card feel too busy!

Handmade Christmas card featuring nine colorful patterned die cut trees layered over a Secret Sea arch on a white embossed background, with a red sentiment strip, Linen Thread bow, and rhinestones.

I started with a Thick Basic White card base and added another layer of Basic White embossed with the Softly Woven 3D Embossing Folder. I love the subtle woven texture this adds to the background! It gives the card a little extra interest while still allowing those colorful Christmas trees to be the stars of the show.

Next, I used the Everyday Arches Dies to die cut an arch from Secret Sea cardstock. The dark background really helps those patterned trees stand out! Using the Holly Jolly Branches Bundle, I die cut nine trees from coordinating patterns in the Timeless Christmas and Creative Celebrations Designer Series Paper packs.

I love how the different patterns work together! From traditional Christmas reds and greens to softer blues, each tree brings something a little different to the design. I arranged the trees at varying heights, overlapping them to create a fun little Christmas forest.

To finish the card, I added a Linen Thread bow and stamped the sentiment in Secret Sea ink onto a strip of Real Red cardstock. A few rhinestones add just the right amount of sparkle!

Don’t be afraid to mix and match Designer Series Paper patterns! The trick is to choose patterns that share a few coordinating colors. Using a solid cardstock background, like Secret Sea on this card, helps bring everything together and keeps the design from looking too busy.
