Freebie Friday: Silly Safari Giraffe Birthday Card with Calypso Coral

There’s just something about this giraffe that makes me smile! The Silly Safari stamp set is such a cute one for cheerful birthday cards, and since it’s currently on the Last Chance list, I definitely wanted to pull it out again. I paired it with Calypso Coral and Old Olive for a bright, happy card that works for just about any age.

I started with a Calypso Coral card base and added a piece of Calypso Coral Designer Series Paper from the Subtles DSP pack. I love using tone-on-tone DSP like this because it adds a little pattern to the background without taking attention away from the main image.

For the focal point, I die cut an arch from Basic White cardstock using the Everyday Arches dies. I stamped the leaves along the bottom of the arch in Old Olive and Mossy Meadow inks to create a little jungle scene for the giraffe.

The giraffe from the Silly Safari stamp set was stamped separately on Basic White cardstock and colored with Golden Glow and Calypso Coral Stampin’ Blends. After fussy cutting the giraffe, I popped it up with Dimensionals so it stands out from the leafy background.

I heat embossed the “Happy Birthday you party animal” sentiment in white on Old Olive cardstock. The Old Olive ties in perfectly with the greenery and gives the sentiment plenty of contrast. A few Wonderful Stars Puffy Stickers finish everything off with a fun little detail. Those are also on the Last Chance list, so this card gave me a chance to use two Last Chance favorites!

Tone-on-tone Designer Series Paper is an easy way to add interest without making your card feel too busy. If your focal image has a lot going on, try choosing DSP in the same color as your card base for a subtle background.
