Thanks + Giving Happy Thanksgiving Card with Sunflower Fields DSP

Here’s another fall card with the Thanks + Giving stamp set, and this time I pulled in one of my favorite things to do when cardmaking — mixing lots of texture with a pretty piece of Designer Series Paper! The Sunflower Fields DSP brings in all those gorgeous fall colors, while the darker focal point gives the sentiment a place to really stand out.

I started with a Pecan Pie card base and added another layer of Pecan Pie embossed with the Softly Woven 3D Embossing Folder. I love using the same color for the card base and embossed layer because you get all that extra texture without introducing another color.

Next, I matted a piece of the Sunflower Fields Designer Series Paper onto Basic White cardstock. That thin white border helps separate the DSP from the Pecan Pie background and also ties in with the white details in the focal point.

For the center, I die cut an Early Espresso circle using the Stylish Shapes dies and stamped the wreath from the Thanks + Giving stamp set in Early Espresso ink. It’s a subtle tone-on-tone detail, but it adds a little something extra to that dark circle. I also added a faux bow with white Baker’s Twine before adding the sentiment.

The “Happy Thanksgiving” sentiment was heat embossed with white embossing powder onto Cajun Craze cardstock, fussy cut, and popped up with Dimensionals. A few Array of Dots finish off the card and pull out some of the softer yellow tones from the Sunflower Fields DSP.

Tone-on-tone stamping is a great way to add detail without making a card feel too busy. Try stamping an image in the same ink color as your cardstock — you’ll get a subtle pattern that works especially well behind a sentiment or other focal point.
